Each player has 4 game pieces of the same colour and places them on his starting points. Going in a clockwise direction, each player takes turns to throw the dice. If a player throws a five, he may place a piece on the bench, which is located to the left of the starting points.

During each subsequent turn, if the player rolls a five, he can choose whether to move one of his pieces that is already on the board or to enter another of his pieces into the game.

If a player throws a six, he may take another turn and throw the dice again. A six is always doubled, i.e. to 12 points. If a player throws a six three times in a row, he is not allowed to move any of his pieces, and all of his pieces that are not on a bench or on the home column are moved back to the starting points.

If a player overtakes an opponent’s piece, this piece can be returned to its starting point. The dark fields are safe benches where the pieces are protected and cannot be removed from play.

If two pieces of the same colour are on a safe bench, the other players cannot jump over them. This way players can block their opponents.

Once a piece has completed the circuit of the board, it enters the home column of its colour and moves towards the finish square in the centre of the board. To land on the finish square, the number thrown on the dice must correspond exactly with the number of remaining spaces. If the player throws a number that is too high, he must move his piece back the corresponding number of spaces.

The first player to move all 4 of his pieces to the finish square wins the game. The other players continue the game to compete for the remaining positions.
